We build fast websites that search engines and AI can actually read

Scott Nailon has more than twenty years in web design behind him, plus the technical side most agencies hand to somebody else. We build for speed first, then do the structural work that gives a site its best shot at turning up in Google and inside AI answers.

Free, no obligation, and you talk to Scott rather than a salesperson.

Web Culture is a sister brand of Sites By Design. The years, the clients and the Sydney servers all belong to the same team.

Why us

What you are actually paying for

Most web projects follow the same script. An account manager takes the brief, a subcontractor does the build, a page builder does the heavy lifting, and nobody involved really understands the server it all sits on. It works, sort of. Then the site is slow, small fixes take a fortnight, and the rankings never turn up.

We work the other way around. Scott has spent more than twenty years on website design, SEO and hosting, and your site sits on our own servers here in Sydney. When something needs solving at the server level, we log in and solve it. There is no ticket queue and no offshore support desk, so nobody spends three days working out whether the problem is the code or the host.

More than 350 Australian businesses have worked with us over that time. Some you might know, most you would not, and a good number are still with us years later. Twenty years buys you one thing above all else: we have already made the expensive mistakes, so your project does not have to.

Ask on the call and we will walk you through work in your industry, and put you in touch with a client or two who will tell you what we are actually like to deal with.

What we do

Websites, content and the marketing that feeds them

Different jobs, same point. If the site is not bringing you work, none of it counts.

Website Creation

Engineered first, decorated second

Custom builds on clean, hand-checked code. WordPress where the job suits it, something lighter where it does not. Mobile first, with accessible markup, and built to hold up on a mid-range phone on mobile data rather than only on the machine it was designed on. Ecommerce, lead generation, booking systems and multi-location rollouts. We host it as well, so there is one number to call when anything goes sideways, and one team who can actually see the server logs.

Content Creation

Words your customers are already searching for

We research the questions people actually type, write in your voice instead of ours, and structure every page so search engines and AI models can tell what it covers. This is the part most businesses skip, and then wonder why the traffic never arrived. Service pages, location pages, articles, guides and the schema underneath them.

Online Marketing

Spend managed like it is our own money

Google Ads, local SEO, technical SEO, and reporting honest enough to show what did not work. Mostly that means switching off the campaigns that are not converting instead of letting them tick over for another quarter. You keep the logins and the data.

Performance

Why we are obsessive about load time

A slow site loses people before your copy gets a chance to work. Core Web Vitals also feed into how Google assesses a page, and have done for years. So we chase speed at every layer instead of installing a caching plugin and calling it done.

Search and AI visibility

Getting found now takes two jobs, not one

For twenty years the job was ranking on Google, and that job has not gone anywhere. But plenty of people now never reach a results page at all. They ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Copilot, read the answer they get, and ring whichever business was named in it.

The two jobs overlap, but they are not the same job. Ranking is mostly authority and relevance. Getting quoted inside an answer comes down to being unambiguous: a model has to work out what you do and who you do it for without guessing, and it wants to find the same facts about you somewhere else before it will repeat them.

What that looks like on a real project:

  • Schema markup describing your business, services, locations and FAQs in a form machines read directly.
  • Semantic HTML, so headings and sections carry real structure underneath the styling.
  • Answers that finish in one place. A complete answer is what gets quoted.
  • The same business facts everywhere. Your site, your Business Profile, directories, socials. Nobody should have to reconcile three different phone numbers for you.
  • Fast, crawlable, server rendered pages.
  • Reporting that separates AI referral traffic from everything else, so you can see it rather than assume it.

We do all of this to our own site too. View the source on this page and the schema is right there, and there is an llms.txt sitting in the root. Ask any other agency selling you this to show you theirs.

How it works

How a project actually runs

Discovery

A 15 minute call, free. We work out what you need, what it involves, and whether we are the right people for it. Sometimes we are not, and we will say so.

Strategy

Keyword and question research, sitemap, and a page-by-page plan with a fixed price for the scope we agree. You approve the lot before anything gets designed.

Design and build

Real content in real layouts on a staging URL you can click through, not a flat mockup in a PDF. Revisions happen here, while they are still cheap.

Launch

Redirects mapped, schema in place, analytics and Search Console connected, speed measured on the live server before we call it done.

Ongoing

Hosting, updates, content and marketing, month to month. If we stop earning it you should be free to walk, and you are.

Straight talk

We are picky, and it saves everyone time

Probably not us

We are not the cheapest and we are not the fastest. We build sites to last rather than to be replaced in two years, and that takes longer at the front end. If either of those rules us out, no hard feelings.

A good fit

If you are an established Australian business that has outgrown the site you have. If an agency has let you down and would not explain in plain English what it was actually doing. Or if you are getting a reasonable amount of traffic that stubbornly refuses to turn into enquiries, and nobody has been able to tell you why.

Questions

The things people ask first

What does a website cost?
It depends on scope, and anyone quoting a figure before understanding your job is guessing. We scope the work properly, then give you a fixed price for the scope we agree, so the number does not move unless you decide to change what we are building. Consulting outside a project is $250 plus GST per hour.
Am I locked into a contract?
No. Hosting, maintenance and marketing all run month to month. We would rather keep clients because the work is good than because the paperwork makes leaving painful.
Who actually does the work?
Our own team in Sydney. Design, build, hosting and marketing are handled in house, and your project is not passed to an offshore subcontractor you never speak to. Scott takes the first call himself.
Can you fix a site somebody else built?
Often, yes. Occasionally the honest answer is that a rebuild costs less than untangling what is there. We will tell you which of the two you are looking at before you spend anything.
What is the difference between SEO and AI visibility?
SEO is about ranking on a results page. AI visibility is about being named inside the answer itself, where there is no list of ten blue links to be third on. The technical groundwork overlaps heavily, which is why doing both together is more efficient than treating them as separate projects.
How long before I see results?
A new build usually goes live in weeks. Search moves slower than that. Technical fixes can shift things within days, while content and authority usually need three to six months to compound. Anyone promising you page one in thirty days is selling something.
Do you work with businesses outside Sydney?
Yes, right across Australia. Meetings run on Zoom, which most clients prefer to sitting in traffic anyway.
